“The Grief Recovery Method programme is an evidence-informed, practice-based programme that has been shown to effectively influence components of grief and grief recovery.”

(Dr Rachael D. Nolan and Dr Jeffery S. Hallam of Kent State University (Ohio, USA) conducted the research and published two scholarly articles in the American Journal of Health Education in February 2019. For more information see:

Grief Recovery Proven Effective in Scientific Studies (griefuk.org)

It covers well over 40 different types of “loss” including:

  • Death

  • Divorce, separation and relationship breakdown

  • The estrangement of family members and friends

  • Infertility, Miscarriage and stillbirth

  • Abusive or absent parenting

  • Loss of identity, career, financial security or retirement

  • Pet loss.

Using a task-based approach, the programme runs over 7 to 8 weeks, on a one-to-one basis or in groups.

You will identify long-established beliefs and behaviours that you may have used in the past, to help you cope with ongoing grief and senses of loss.

You will then go on to identify losses having the biggest impact in your life.

We will work together and, as a result, you will acquire a new set of tools that will equip you to complete the pain you have lived with.

GRM helps you to bring new meaning to a life that keeps you stuck in the past, enabling you to focus on the fond memories without them turning painful. It was a key part in my own recovery and I am now reaching out to impart this knowledge to others who may be “stuck” in their loss.

What my clients say:

“Completing the Grief Recovery programme has made a huge difference to how I feel about two really significant situations in my life that had an impact for far too long. I can't thank Joan enough. Put your trust and faith in her and the programme. You won't regret it.

Joan is an incredible human being and simply exceptional at what she does.”  Andy L.

“The beauty of the Grief Recovery Method is that it gives you tools & a structure to use again with whatever is causing you 'grief', be it death, relationships, loss of jobs, health or other situations.” Jackie.

“Using this method helped me realise every angle of my pain and how it was affecting my life. Loss is such a major part of our lives. We all need this. It’s hard to do this work but unless we do we can’t be free. Thank you Joan for lovingly guiding me through each step. I was held by you though out. Thank you for teaching me how to cope. I have more work to do but I now have the tools. If you are tempted do get involved, I highly recommend Joan and GRM." Natasha.
